The gap between us is mighty
Somewhere between wide and vast
I feel I know you already
From somewhere ages past.

Somewhere between wide and vast
We met on digital screens
From somewhere ages past
We couldn’t meet in-between.

We met on digital screens
We fought a battle of morals
We couldn’t meet in-between
No victor to our toils.

We fought a battle of morals
Now again we fight
No victor to our toils
No end for this combat in sight.

Now again we fight.
I feel I know you already.
No end for this combat in sight.
The gap between us is mighty.

A pantoum style poem. Conflicts in Hong Kong are getting worse and the way protests are developing are repeating their pattern from the Umbrella Revolutions once again. This poem is really part of my deep desire to be able to do something, to communicate with those in the middle who are entrenched within their turtle shells, waiting for everything to die down, but I find myself getting angrier and sadder simultaneously by their silence.

The pantoum with its strict back and forth rules seemed perfect as a frame for this struggle that never seems to end. At first I wanted to picture a sea, the tides, but I really can’t blame nature and consider it a neutral ‘in-betweener’. Well. More for another day.
